All Weather Lifeboat Centre Visit 2019

August 7th 2019
Tour of the RNLI All-weather Lifeboat Centre.
The commererative stone was made from a piece of Portland stone which contained its own history with fossils clearly on view.

We were met in reception by Nicola Martenstyn (Community Fundraising Manager) who escorted us to the Riggers Restaurant which has magnificent panoramic views of Holes Bay in Poole Harbour,
After coffee we were introduced to Mr John McCallion {Head of Internal Construction and Refit) who gave us a first class tour of the All Weather Lifeboat Centre

Next on the itinerary was the visit to The RNLI College which is at the heart of the RNLI – where the extraordinary lifesaving volunteer crew and lifeguards from around the UK and Ireland are trained in the Survival pool and in the simulator. During this part of the day Yvonne acted as Coxswain and Andrew was the helm of the Tamar class lifeboat on a shout out of Dover Harbour to a fire onboard a container ship.

After surviving a force11 storm and 10metre waves it was time to have lunch with Fundraising Director – Jayne George. During the meeting with Jayne a presentation took place to both Yvonne and Andrew in recognition of years of volunteering.
